Man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run accident

A Titus County man is now in custody charged in connection with the hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a Mount Pleasant man.


 

Fidel Mendoza-Rios, 52, was arrested July 2 after tips led to his location and to the vehicle believed to be involved in the accident. The crash occurred Monday, July 1 at around 8:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Farm-to-Market Road 2152 on Greenhill Road, six miles north of Mount Pleasant. According to investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the victim’s bicycle was traveling northbound when the suspect’s vehicle struck him from behind. The victim was thrown from his bicycle into the ditch. The suspect then fled the scene driving a light-colored SUV.


Bond was set at $20,000 July 3 for Mendoza-Rios who was charged with failure to stop and render aid (FSRA), resulting in death, a second-degree felony.
