A Pittsburg father sits in the Camp County Jail on bonds totaling more than a half-million dollars after additional charges were filed in connection with multiple injuries to his children including a two-month-old son.
The infant first needed medical attention June 14 when he arrived at UT Health Pittsburg. At the time, the parents initially indicated that the child's head had accidentally bumped into a door at home. Because the injury involved a child, officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were automatically called in to investigate.
Soon after, the child had to be transferred to a Dallas hospital where medical personnel there discovered the injuries were much more serious than first assumed. In fact, test results indicated the child had suffered a skull fracture with bleeding on the brain. With assistance from Child Protective Services (CPS) staff members, authorities then determined the child not only had one skull fracture but actually had suffered a second, previous injury to the skull which was beginning to heal.
The father, Christian Marin, 27, who had initially been interviewed by police, was questioned a second time after test results determined the severity of the injuries. Marin confessed to abusing the child. The mother, who was also interviewed, has not been charged.
Marin was arrested June 17, two days after Father's Day, and charged with one (1) count of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. He was also charged with one (1) count of injury to a child causing bodily injury related the first fracture. His bond was set at $500,000 for the first-degree felony and $30,000 for the third-degree felony.
Additional charges were filed June 23 after discovering that the second child, age 5, has also been abused by the father.
"We take any case that involves child abuse very seriously," Pittsburg Police Chief Matthew Lemarr said. "When it comes to these kinds of situations, we have zero tolerance. It is so sad to know that in just two, short months this child has suffered so much pain."
