Murder suspect Onterrian Jamour Newton, 17, remains in custody following the tragic death of Jamarion Demonte Brown, 23.

Newton, a Mount Pleasant resident, is accused of firing multiple gunshots at a party held at a private residence in Camp County. The initial, emergency call was placed just after midnight on May 24. Two other victims also received non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation.

At one point, the suspect was reportedly in Tyler following the shooting, but returned to Pittsburg May 27 and turned himself in to authorities. He was then arrested and taken into custody at the Camp County Jail after a joint investigation led by the Texas Rangers with assistance from the Camp County Sheriff's Office and the Pittsburg Police Department.

"We are grateful for the cooperation of the many agencies that contributed to bringing this shooting incident to a conclusion," Camp County Sheriff John Cortelyou said. "Our thoughts and prayers are also extended, especially to the family of Jamarion Brown, and to everyone involved."

Charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Newton’s total bond was set at $1.2 million. He was assessed a bond of $100,000 for each assault charge related to the two injured victims and $1 million related to the tragic death of Brown. If convicted, Newton could face up to life in prison.

A star athlete and 2020 Mount Pleasant graduate, Brown had just completed his first year of school at Henderson State University playing basketball for the Reddies team. He was laid to rest May 30 inside the Willie Williams Gym at Mount Pleasant High School---on the same hardwood floor where he helped lead his Tigers to countless victories.
